No child should go hungry. No elder should have to choose between food and other necessities. No family should face food insecurity alone.
The Mobile Hunger Hero was created to help meet that need.
Purchased by Team Buche Cares in 2025, the Mobile Hunger Hero serves as a mobile food distribution hub, allowing us to deliver nutritious food directly to rural and tribal communities across South Dakota. Through strategic partnerships, volunteers, and generous donors, we are able to reach communities where access to healthy food is often limited.
Since 2024, Team Buche Cares has distributed more than 600,000 meals throughout South Dakota, helping children, families, veterans, and elders facing food insecurity. In 2026 alone, the Mobile Hunger Hero has already completed 85 food distributions across the state.
Why We Do This
When RF Buche was a child working alongside his father in the family grocery business, he learned a lesson that continues to guide Team Buche Cares today:
“In the grocery business, it is our moral obligation to make sure everybody gets fed.”
That belief has become the foundation of our work.
Every distribution is about more than food. It is about dignity, hope, and showing up for our neighbors when they need us most.
Making an Impact
The Mobile Hunger Hero delivers food directly to communities throughout South Dakota, including many rural towns and tribal reservations where transportation, distance, and limited access to grocery stores can create barriers to healthy food.
Together with our partners, we are:
- Providing food to children during summer months when school meals are unavailable
- Supporting families facing financial hardship
- Serving families living in remote communities
- Responding to emergencies and unexpected crises
- Strengthening local food security across South Dakota
Every mile traveled and every meal distributed is made possible through community support.
