Summer Food Program

In July of 2024, Buche Foods, in conjunction with Anna Halverson, Pass Creek Tribal Council Representative of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, undertook the challenge of a “Summer Food Program” feeding 28,000 children a lunch and a snack, and ending with 46,900 breakfasts and suppers, each week across the nine districts of the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.

With only two business hours to plan, the program involved securing, assembling and delivering 28,000 meals and snacks, twice-a-week, to remote areas in Pine Ridge where summer food insecurity is the greatest. The program grew and ended up feeding children a breakfast and a supper across all nine districts, feeding children who were not being fed in the past.
